The
Middle Fork is a superb fishing stream and is one of
the few native fisheries left in the United States.
As a premiere fishing river it is abundant with Cutthroat
Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Dolly Varden. It is also home
to a special sub-species of West Slope Cutthroat. These
native fish are strong and numerous due to their environment
and the river Catch and Release regulations. As a "Blue
Ribbon" fishery, the water of the Middle Fork is crystal
clear, the fish are aggressive and the size of the fish
are outstanding. The Middle Fork is a classic dry fly
fishery. Consequently, we encourage most of our guests
to fly fish. Even the novice angler stands an excellent
chance of landing a good number of fish each day. Guests
can fish from the shore and from the oar boats. Fishing
the Middle fork is best from July through September
with the fishing improving as the summer progresses.

Adventure
Guides offers Specialty
Fly-Fishing Trips (downloadable PDF) in late
August and throughout September. During this time of
year fish rise to dry flies all day long. In maintaining
the high quality of fishing, only artificial flies and
lures with single barbless hooks are allowed. When necessary,
we flatten the barbs
on conventional hooks to conform to the rules. Recommended
fly patterns include: Stimulators, Elk Hair Caddis,
Renegades, Adams, Irresistibles, Stone and Salmon Fly
Imitations, Hoppers, Madame X, Royal Wolff and Humpys.
All of our guides are avid fisherman and will help you
select flies or even provide a few of their favorites.
For those just starting out our guides take great pleasure
in teaching all facets of the art of fly-fishing. Light
waders may be needed for fall fishing trips. Nets are
welcome and handy during any part of the season. We
provide a few rods for those who just want to experiment
and have fun. The experienced, serious anglers bring
their own rods in hard cases and their favorite tackle.
An Idaho State fishing license is required and may be
purchased in Stanley before the trip or from the Idaho
Fish and Game at 1-800-554-8685.
